A differential staining for living and dead larval trematodes.

In the course of various experiments on larval trematodes, we often confront the necessity for determining their death. In such cases the movement of body, cilia or flame-cells is used commonly as an indicator to determine their death by many parasitologists. However, such movements appear to be not always coincident with the time of the death, consequently results of the diagnosis by such a te...

Community Structure : Larval Trematodes in Snail Hosts

In species assemblages of larval trematodes in individual snail hosts, fewer multispecies infections are observed than might be expected by chance. Both interspecific competition and the isolating effect of heterogeneity inrecruitment may explain this pattern of community structure. Here, we analyzed the expected and observed frequency of double infections, using data culled from 62 studies. Ou...

GEOLOGICAL NOTES Regional Paleoprecipitation Records from the Late Eocene and Oligocene of North America

The marine dO record indicates precipitous cooling or significant expansion of Antarctic ice volume across the Eocene-Oligocene epoch boundary at 33.7 Ma. This climatic step is also found in estimates of decreased paleoprecipitation from paleosols in Oregon, Montana, and Nebraska but is only a part of a long-term decline across the Eocene-Oligocene transition rather than a sudden shift. This su...
